Richard J. Perlman
Funeral Director Emeritus
"Learning about death gave me the best opportunity to learn about life. Funeral arranging helps me embrace a reverence for the human spirit. I learned from my father, George Perlman, to participate in Taharah, to provide support and guidance on how a funeral is conducted, and to treat family members and others with dignity and compassion when guiding them through loss.”
Richy became a working member of Perlman Funeral Home in Worcester at the age of fourteen. Over 100 years of Jewish tradition inspired Richy's path set by his father and grandfather. In 1914, his grandfather, Harry Jacob Perlman, established a guiding principle passed on to his father, "Consideration for the Living, Dedicated to Service". With a profound dedication to the Jewish Community, Richy continued to perpetuate this philosophy. In 2014, Richy partnered with Miles Funeral Home where he served as a local Jewish Funeral Director for Worcester and surrounding communities.
Richy passed away on March 15th, 2025 at the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester. He was a dedicated and compassionate funeral director where he faithfully served the Jewish community for many years, providing care and support to families in their times of need. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Richy's Obituary:
WORCESTER - Richard Jaffe Perlman, dedicated Worcester Funeral Director, died March 15, 2025 at Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester.
In 1939, Richard Jaffe Perlman, son of George and Sadie (Jaffe) Perlman, was born in Lowell, Massachusetts. Shortly thereafter, Richy and his family moved to Worcester, and his father opened Perlman Funeral Home. For over 60 years, Richy worked tirelessly as a funeral director, serving the Jewish community and embodying his family’s guiding principle, “Consideration for the living, dedicated to service.” He always made sure that every family was afforded funeral arrangements, ritualistic preparations, a casket, and an appropriate burial no matter how difficult their circumstances. Although Perlman Funeral Home was sold to a national company in the mid-1990s, Richy continued providing funeral services in Worcester to those whose loved ones still recognized his trusting presence and were familiar with his knowledge acquired from years of training. Ultimately, Richy partnered with Rick Mansfield of Miles Funeral Home and continued to serve the Worcester Jewish community, alongside Bruce Wahle, until shortly before his death. On January 25, 2025, Richy received the key to the city from Worcester Mayor Joseph M. Petty, alongside Congressman Jim McGovern and former President of the Massachusetts Senate Harriette L. Chandler for his service to the Worcester Jewish community.
Richy was fortunate to have lived a full life with a lot of humor. As a boy, he enjoyed playing sports and attending Camp Bauercrest in Amesbury, Massachusetts. He attended South High in Worcester and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. While in high school, he was president of a Jewish fraternity, Mu Sigma, and in college, he was a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi. He served in active duty and the reserves for the U.S. Army. He loved cheering for UMass and Boston sports teams, especially the Celtics.
Richy sustained lifelong friendships in the Worcester community and beyond. In October of 2024, Richy lost the love of his life, Marilyn (Rozefsky) Perlman after 60 years of marriage. In her last days, Richy often said to Marilyn, “Save me a front row seat in Heaven.” He deeply mourned her death and missed their life-long connection, their many laughs, and their supportive friendship. They had a very full life together and enjoyed traveling, the arts, spending time with family and friends, and celebrating holidays together.
Richy is remembered as a dedicated husband, loving father, doting grandfather, brother, and uncle. He is survived by his two children, Caroline Braun Perlman Cahn (David Lawrence) of Baltimore, Maryland, and Evan Harry Perlman (Catherine Caroline Crow) of Arlington, Virginia. Richy leaves behind four wonderful grandchildren: Jessica Perlman Cahn of Baltimore, Sarah Perlman Cahn of Washington, D.C., and George Bennett and Harry Morris Perlman of Arlington. He is also survived by his brothers, Raymond Perlman (Ruth Ann) of Phoenix, Arizona and Robert Perlman (Joan) of Worcester and his sister-in-law Lois Rozefsky Berg of Worcester. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, his brother-in-law, Burton Franklin Berg, and his many dear German Shepherds and Bassett Hounds. He will be deeply missed by his Bassett Hound, Sonata, who now resides in Baltimore.
The family would like to thank the staff at Jewish Healthcare Center (JHC) and JHC Hospice for their unwavering kindness and care of Richy. The family would also like to thank Anne Laverty for her care and compassion toward both Richy and Marilyn in their final years.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Congregation Beth Israel, 15 Jamesbury Drive, Worcester. Burial will be at B'Nai Brith Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Richy may be made to Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury Street, Worcester 01609, and Yeshiva Achei Tmimim, 22 Newton Avenue, Worcester 01602. Memorial observances will be announced following the service.

Amber Ditomasso, CPC
Funeral Director, Certified Preplanning Consultant
“One of the most rewarding feelings is knowing I have helped families plan thoughtful, personal, and meaningful funeral arrangements in advance, either for themself, family members, or a friend. It provides them a sense of accomplishment knowing that they are not leaving loved ones with this very personal task. I am honored to guide them through it.”
As a certified and skilled advanced funeral planner, Amber guides families through the process, including education on prefunding in order to protect assets for Medicaid qualification, or simply because they want to spare loved ones the emotional and financial burden. As a former at-need funeral director, Amber knows firsthand the value and importance of pre-arrangements. “It’s much easier on family members when they are certain that their loved one is honored exactly as they have chosen.”
Amber is a graduate of New England Institute of Funeral Service, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Worcester State University, and a master’s degree from Cambridge College. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, paddle boarding, and wakeboarding with her husband and two college-aged daughters, and spending time with her two beloved Italian greyhounds.

Maureen M. Monahan, CPC
Funeral Director, Certified Preplanning Consultant
"What I most enjoy is meeting and getting to know families and journeying with them through the grief process. I am grateful to be a familiar face for them at Miles."
After 30 years working in educational travel, Maureen began a second career in funeral service after her parents died within weeks of each other and a funeral director inspired her with these words: “I do this to help the person left behind and it is very rewarding.” After this remark, funeral service was the only thing Maureen wanted to do, and so she simultaneously retained her full-time job, apprenticed through working part-time at Miles, and studied full-time to become a funeral director.
Maureen’s compassionate manner and keen knowledge of the various products and possibilities for tributes provide families everything they need to prepare a beautiful memorial for their loved one. Maureen has both the heart and skill to embrace people facing loss through addiction.
Maureen is a graduate of Doherty Memorial High School in Worcester and FINE Mortuary College in Norwood, MA. In her spare time, she enjoys family get-togethers, hiking, walking, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Matthew P.A. Crowley
Funeral Director
Like many funeral professionals, Matt was introduced to death at a young age. He was 4 years old when his father died. His family’s openness in dealing with this and subsequent losses helped Matt develop a fascination and interest in funeral care and empathy for people grieving a death loss. Although he followed his family into the trucking transportation business, there remained a seed germinating which eventually brought him to return to school and graduate from FINE Mortuary College.
Matt considers the preparation of a person for viewing and burial an art form and so his favored area of work is embalming, dressing, casketing, and cosmetology, creating a near life-like appearance to give families comfort. “Taking care of families in the toughest time of their life and helping to ease their grief is central to my work,” says Matt, “For this I am willing to do whatever is needed.”
Matt is married and has two grown daughters and three grandchildren. He and his wife live in Westford where he enjoys model railroading, golf, and working in the yard.

Kelley Molloy
Funeral Director
Like many funeral professionals, Kelley Molloy found her way into funeral service indirectly. While earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and biology at University of New Haven, Kelley served an internship at a morgue that performed autopsies. It was there the journey to a profession she “absolutely loves” began. Now a licensed funeral director, she describes her attachment to the profession: “I am at home in this career I have chosen and I can’t picture myself doing anything else. I love my job. It is raw, a real display of human emotion. At the end of the day I am happy to go to work. “
Kelley finds the opportunity to work with grieving families rewarding, “The reward is that every day, every family is different. The warm hug at the end of the day, being on their team, helping them on the worse day of their life is the best of what we funeral directors do; it is truly a calling.” She considers empathy the most necessary quality for her work, approaching each family with the promise to hold their grief for a small, brief moment.
Kelley is a graduate of Westford Academy, University of New Haven CT, and Commonwealth Mortuary School. She began her work in funeral care in 2016 and became a licensed Director in 2019. In her spare time she enjoys travel, downhill skiing, the beach, spending time with her dogs: chiweenie Tony and black lab Mazie. She values quality time at home and being with her close-knit, extended family who spend a lot of time together.

At the age of 16, with an optimistic spirit, he began working at a funeral home performing such duties as parking cars, cleaning the funeral home or assisting at live-stream ceremonies. Nick received excellent hands-on education before deciding to apprentice in what he intends to be a lifetime career of helping to bring light into the darkest moments of grief-stricken people.
A proud native of Shrewsbury and a 2020 graduate of Shrewsbury High School, Nick attained his bachelor’s degree in business management and a minor in marketing from Assumption University in May 2024. Currently enrolled at the Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service, Nick joins the Miles team with a deep commitment to serving others, especially guiding people through the mourning process.
In his spare time, Nick enjoys spending time with his family, being active in the Italian community, traveling, and playing golf.

Donna Stone
Office Manager
“My life’s experiences prepared me perfectly for the role of creating personal tributes for families. Whether a video montage, prayer card or memorial candle, I appreciate the significance of these treasures for grieving families. I take great care and tremendous pride in my tribute duties, because I am creating a lifetime memory.”
Donna knows more than most, what a vital role Miles plays in the lives and hearts of those we serve. Donna joined the Miles support staff in 2019 and spends a majority of her time creating memorable tributes to honor loved ones.
Donna continues to honor Kaitlyn’s legacy through passionate volunteerism with the Make A Wish Foundation of MA & RI and The Jimmy Fund of Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
Donna’s enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters and she can be found on a soccer field, cheering her children on, capturing photos them and their teammates. When not in her adopted town of Holden, Donna can be found enjoying the beaches of Hutchinson Island, FL, Cape May, NJ or Cape Cod.
