PAXTON – Robert W. Smith, 63, of Streeter Road, died Saturday, July 11, 2009 at home after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 26 years, Carol-Ann (Hair) Smith; his step-son, Brian Clancey of Spencer; four brothers, Harold Smith and his wife Joan of Paxton, John Smith of Oxford, Thomas Smith of Auburn and Ronald Smith of Oakham; four sisters, Linda Tupper and her husband Barry of Holden, Barbara Lyons of Providence, RI, Priscilla Davis of Webster and Shirley Tomlin of Benbrook, TX; his brother-in-law, George Hair and his wife Kate of Oakham; several nieces and nephews including his much loved niece, Michelle Hunting of Brookfield.
Robert was born in Holden the son of Harold F. and Alma (Marchand) Smith and has lived in Paxton for over 30 years. He was a graduate of Wachusett Regional High School. He was an Army Specialist 4th Class in the Vietnam War, earning a Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star and a Combat Infantryman Badge. Mr. Smith was the head custodian at the Paxton Center School for 11 years. Previously, he was a mechanic at Sunnyside Ford for 30 years and operated the Paxton Gulf Station.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15th in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A funeral service for Robert will be held on Thursday, July 16th at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Care Network & Hospice, Development Office, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608-1280.
