HOLDEN – Shirley W. (Keirstead) Wilkins, 79, of Cutler Road, Jefferson, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 1, 2010.
Her husband of 47 years, Edward E. Wilkins, Sr., died in 1996. She leaves two sons, Russell E. Wilkins and his wife Kathleen of Buzzards Bay and Edward E. Wilkins, Jr. and his wife Victoria of North Brookfield; two daughters, Beverly A. Wilkins of Florida and Helen B. Briand and her husband Mark of Rutland; three sisters, Betty Eddy of Rutland, Joan Gentile of Worcester and Susan Witcher of Rutland; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces. A daughter, Carol W. Tenny of Peterborough, New Hampshire, died in 1996. She was born in New Bedford, daughter of Roland and Helen (Howe) Keirstead, and has lived in Jefferson for over 60 years.
Mrs. Wilkins was a bus driver for Milton Pearson and R.L. McCarthy Bus Co. for many years. She was Past Matron, Wachusett Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, now Cradle Rock and Past Mother Advisor of the Holden Assembly #85, International Order Rainbow for Girls. She was an avid bowler and played in local leagues. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her many grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 4th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Her funeral service will be held at 1 pm. on Friday, November 5th, in the funeral home with burial following in Grove Cemetery, 1290 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden.
