WORCESTER – Winthrop A. Thompson, 84, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, in Metrowest Hospital, Natick, after a short illness.
He leaves his beloved wife of 50 years, Phyllis A. (Pearson) Thompson; a daughter, Marsha M. Susmann-Grogan and her husband Robert J. Grogan and her children, Natalie M. Susmann and Austin W. Susmann all of Wellesley. A daughter, Sue-Ellen Thompson-Pattiselanno, died in 2001. He also leaves Sue-Ellen’s children, Heather and Pamela Pattiselanno, both of Worcester; several nieces and nephews. Two brothers and 3 sisters predeceased him. He was born in Leicester, son of Harry A. and Helen (Priest) Thompson, graduated Worcester Boys Trade, and lived in Worcester all of his life. He was an Army veteran of World War II where he was awarded a bronze star for the battle of Okinawa.
Mr. Thompson was a machinist at Norton Company in Worcester for many years. Previously he worked for Azar Bartlett Printing Company in Worcester. After retirement he worked at Mechanics Hall in Worcester. He was a member, usher and deacon at the United Congregational Church, UCC, in Worcester. He was a member of the 24th Masonic District in Webster. As a youth he spent summers and was an alumnus at Camp Sankaty Head in Nantucket Island.
The funeral service for Mr. Thompson will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 4, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will follow in All Faith’s Cemetery, 7 Island Road, Worcester. Calling hours are from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, in the funeral home.
