HOLDEN -- Winifred "Winnie" (Wentworth) Starbard, 94, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2018 under the loving care of her family and the dedicated staff at Holden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Hardwick on January 24, 1924, Winnie was raised in Holden and was the daughter of Lyman E. and Diana (Hill) Wentworth. Winnie married her high school sweetheart, Ken Starbard on May 31, 1952 at the First Congregational Church of Holden. Winnie was a lifetime member of the First Congregational Church of Holden where she sang in the choir and volunteered in the Thrift Shop. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Forbush Bird Club, Brookline Bird Club, Mass Audubon Society, The Nature Conservancy, Women's Health Initiative, Massachusetts Nursing Association, and the Boston Children's Hospital Nursing Alumni Association. She looked forward to family gatherings and organized bird trips with her friends. Winnie will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband of 66 years, Kenneth A. Starbard; three sons, Evan Starbard and his wife, Meg of Rutland, Eric Starbard and his partner, Michelle of Sterling and Eliot G. Starbard and his wife, Lisa of Oakham; six grandchildren, Audrey, Rachael, Andrew, Dana, Christopher and Alex; two great granddaughters, Lillian and Adelaide Cutler; nephews and nieces. Winnie is predeceased by two brothers, Donald and David Wentworth, and a sister, Diana Cioffi.Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Winnie's family from 11 to 12 noon on Saturday, August 18, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, followed a service of Remembrance at 12 noon. Interment will take place privately at Grove Cemetery in Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 92114. (
