HUBBARDSTON – William J. Young, 87, of Hubbardston, passed away peacefully with his wife Jackie by his side on Monday, April 11, 2016 at UMass Memorial Medical Center. Born and raised in Fulton, New York, Bill was the son of William H. and Ethel (Sommer) Young and lived 32 years in Holden before moving to Hubbardston in 2002. Bill graduated from Fulton High School in 1946 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Shannon. After returning home from the service, Bill moved to the Worcester area and attended Becker College where he concentrated his studies in accounting. While working at Mechanics Bank in Worcester, Bill met his future wife, Jackie Newton. They married in 1958 and later moved to Holden where they raised their three daughters. He worked 25 years at Marine Plastics in Clinton. After a few years of retirement he went to work at Deere Polymer in Holden for many years. He ended his career working fulltime into his mid 70’s at the American Antiquarian Society in Worcester. He was a voracious reader, and up into his eighties, was taking history courses at Worcester State College. His grandchildren adored him and would frequently consult their Grampa when writing history papers. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be lovingly missed by those who were privileged to know him. He leaves his loving wife of 58 years, Jacqueline A. (Newton) Young; two daughters, Shonna L. Larson and her husband, Tomas of Hubbardston and Marcia A. McKenney and her husband, Robert of Douglas; four grandchildren, Andrew and Amanda Beaupre, Kayla and Matthew Larson; his son-in-law, Kevin Beaupre of Sterling; nephews and nieces. Besides his parents, Bill is predeceased in life and joined in heaven with his daughter, Lisa A. Beaupre; his brother, Fred Young; and three sisters, Shirley Frank, Barbara Hall and Mary Sherlock.
