William ''Woody'' G. Wood

March 5, 1926 — September 16, 2005

STERLING – William “Woody” G. Wood, 79, of 56 Laurelwood Road, died peacefully on Friday, September 16, 2005,in Umass Memorial Health Care, Worcester in the presence of his loving family.

He leaves his wife of 45 years, Joan H. (Kosewski) Wood; two sons, William R. Wood and his wife Pauline of Gardner and Robert A. Wood and his wife Tracy of Grafton; a daughter, Laura J. Praderio and her husband Paul of Grafton; a brother, Earl Wood of Westminster; eight grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. A daughter, Linda J. Wood, died in 1997. A brother, Warren Wood, predeceased him. He was born in Sterling the son of Warren and Mary (Wilkie) Wood and lived here all his life.

Bill graduated from Leominster High School and worked for New England Telephone Company in Clinton for 42 years. He was a member of the Hiram O. Taylor American Legion Post 189 in Sterling and the Pioneers of America. He was a World War II Army Veteran and served as a Sergeant in the European Theater.

Bill will be remembered as a great Dad. He enjoyed spending time with his family, coaching baseball and hockey, camping and hiking. Skiing was a lifelong hobby but his passion was golf. Taking quarters from his buddies at the Berlin Country Club gave him great enjoyment.

The funeral service for Mr. Wood will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 19, in the Miles Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Road (Rte. 62), Sterling. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney Street, Boston, MA 02115.
