HOLDEN – William M. Scalzulli, beloved husband of Ann A. Scalzulli, passed away unexpectedly at his cottage in Manomet Bluffs, MA on Saturday, October 27, 2018, just one day shy of his 85th birthday. Born in Fitchburg, he was a son of Pasquale and Lena (Conroy) Scalzulli. Bill was a graduate of Franklin High School and attended Ohio State University. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University, and was a proud member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Bushnell-AS 15.
He was a Holden resident for 54 years and was an active member of the community serving on the Jefferson Civic Club, St. Mary’s Church Parish Council, Zoning Board of Appeals (over 20 years), Holden Growth and Management Committee, Holden Jaycees, Republican Town Committee, and as a coach for Holden Little League. He was a member of the Nantucket Alumni Association. Bill enjoyed his sales position with Butler-Dearden Paper Service, retiring at the age of 81 after 55 years of service. Bill enjoyed his customers. In some cases, servicing three generations of family businesses. He earned the Golden Eagle Award from the National Paper Association.
He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife of 57 years, Ann A. (St. Pierre) Scalzulli; his daughter, Lynn A. Helfrich and her husband, Mark of Marshfield; his son William M. Scalzulli and his wife Katie of Norwell; five grandchildren, Andrew and Colby Helfrich and Matthew, Mary Kate and Caroline Scalzulli; and his sister-in-law, Nancy Scalzulli of FL; Brother-in-law Thomas and his wife Susan St. Pierre, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Sylvia and four brothers, Melvin, Leon, Louis and Francis Scalzulli.
He and his wife enjoyed traveling with friends both domestically and abroad.
He was an avid fan of the Patriots, Holy Cross athletics and Ohio State Football. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s events, both academic and social.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Bill’s family from 4 to 7pm on Thursday, November 1 at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Friday, November 2 at St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery, 1284 Main Street, Holden.
