HOLDEN – William “Bill” J. Powers III, 69, of Holden, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on March 31, 2025 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester.
Bill was born on March 2, 1956, in Worcester, the son of the late William J. and Margaret A. (Coomey) Powers.
Raised in Worcester, Bill attended local schools and was a proud graduate of Burncoat High School, class of 1975, where he excelled in sports. Following high school, Bill lived for 5 years on Cape Cod where he learned under the instruction of Joe Gemme who taught him everything he needed to know about tilework. Upon returning to Worcester, he worked for 25 years for Kesseli & Morse Tile Company Inc.
In 1979, Bill married the love of his life, Mary Bentekovics, and together in Central Massachusetts they built a life filled with love, raising four children who were the center of his world.
Bill was especially fond of camping with his family, with many memorable trips to York, ME. When his children were younger, he coached many of their teams and easily earned the respect of his players.
An avid golfer, Bill enjoyed playing rounds with his group that played often. He loved animals, especially his dogs over the years. He was known as a quiet man with a big heart. He loved his life and time spent with his family, children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children: William Powers IV and his wife Lindsay of Lincroft, NJ, Andrew Powers and his wife Kaylin of Holden; Colleen Powers and her partner Benjamin Miller of Holden; and Jennifer Powers of Yarmouth, ME. He also leaves behind his brother James Powers and his wife Beth of Worcester; his sisters Margaret Powers of Westborough, Donna Tyndall of Surfside Beach, SC, Judith McMillen and her husband George of Worcester, and Paula LaRochelle and her husband Paul of Sturbridge; along with his five cherished grandchildren: Mia Powers, Luka Powers, Jacqueline Powers, Scarlett Powers, and Hugh Miller.
Family and friends are invited to gather for calling hours on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m., at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
