Life Legacy

RUTLAND -- William Pelino Narcisi, a lifelong resident of Rutland, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, August 9, 2016. Bill was 84.  He was born in Rutland the son of Italian immigrants Fausto and Giovannina (Lattanzio) Narcisi. After graduating from Rutland High School, Bill enlisted into the United States Marine Corps where he honorably served his country from 1951 to 1953 as a staff sergeant during the Korean War. While in the service, he participated in operations with the 2nd Marine Division against enemy forces in South Korea. Bill returned home and went to work at Rutland Heights Hospital where he met and fell in love with Barbara J. Puchalsky from Barre. They married on November 20, 1965 and settled in the "Narcisi" family home in Rutland where they raised their five daughters.Bill worked for 40 years at Rutland Heights Hospital before retiring. He later worked at Rural Cemetery in Rutland, a job he took great pride in and thoroughly enjoyed. He was lifetime member of St. Patrick’s Church in Rutland and was a longtime member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was a virtuous man and was a strong supporter and volunteer at the Rutland Food Pantry. Bill was a proud member and past Commander of the Rutland American Legion, Post 310. He passionately enjoyed downhill skiing which he did until his early eighties, and was a member of the ski patrol and worked many years as a ski instructor at Pine Ridge in Barre. With the patience of Job, Bill taught his five girls how to ski and to simply enjoy the serenity and peace of the outdoors. They say that “a father’s job is not to teach his daughters how to be ladies. It’s to teach them how a lady should be treated”. Bill guided his girls through their life challenges by being a supportive, loving male role model. The greatest example he set was being outwardly loving and respecting of their mother. On a warm spring, summer or fall day, it was not unusual to find Bill working fervently in his yard, garden or around the house. He also enjoyed being outdoors with his girls and grandchildren or planning a family cookout. He always put his family first. His talents in the kitchen will be missed. Anyone who knew Bill well knew he was the king of making and serving up pizza, bread, soups and pasta with a side of pasta.  He will be remembered as a concerned and contributing member of the Rutland community, for his integrity and tenacious nature.  He is survived and will be lovingly missed by his wife of 51 years, Barbara J. (Puchalsky) Narcisi; his five daughters, Jennifer A. Taylor and her husband, Linn of Simsbury, CT, Lynn Swidey and her husband, Robert of Holden, Paula J. Cardaci of Westminster, Kimberly White and her husband, Bryan of Sterling and Denise L. Grimley and her husband, Keith of Jeffersonville, PA; nine grandchildren, Matthew and Ryan Taylor, Madison Cardaci, Zachary Swidey, Samuel and Nathan White, and Riley, Mason and Camryn Grimley; nieces and nephews; and his granddog, Tugg.
