William H. Meixner

March 13, 1926 — March 24, 2015

RUTLAND/PAXTON – William H. Meixner, Jr., 89, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Holden Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center after an illness. He was born in Detroit, MI the son of William H. Sr., and Anna (Medley) Meixner and had lived in Michigan, Florida and Paxton before moving to Rutland 10 years ago.

He leaves his loving wife of 67 years, Jeanette L. (DesAutels) Meixner; two sons, William C. Meixner of Pennsylvania and Ben H. Meixner of Clinton; two daughters, Katherine M. Chasse of Paxton and Julie A. Lewandowski of Michigan; two brothers, Edwin and Don Meixner, both of Michigan; five grandchildren, Sarah, Michelle and Anthony Boitkus and John and Joelle Chasse; a great-granddaughter, Abigail Chasse; and several nephews and nieces. William was predeceased by his son, Glenn G. Meixner in 2004.

William graduated from Redford High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater during World War II until he was honorably discharged in 1946. He continued his education and graduated from Lawrence Institute of Technology earning a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. William was an engineer for over 38 years and worked for Unisys formerly the Burroughs Corp in Michigan and Florida retiring in 1988. Previously, he worked for Raytheon Company in North Dighton. He was a hard working family man who loved to attend his children’s sporting events and was a member of the Silver Sneakers in Paxton.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2015 in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A committal service will be held in the spring at Mooreland Cemetery in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rutland Fire Brigade Rescue Fund, 240 Main Street, Rutland, MA 01543, or Jimmy Fund, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place – West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445.
