Life Legacy

MASHPEE/SHREWSBURY – William (Vasil) Martiros, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 under the loving care of his family and the dedicated staff at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. Born in Lashove, Albania, Bill was the son of Mina and Elonia “Loni” (Prifti) Martiros. At the age of seven, Bill and his family moved from Albania to the United States and settled in Charlton, Massachusetts where he spent his formative years. He served in the United States Navy and upon returning home, Bill attended Sylvania Technical School in Boston and embarked on his career as a radio and television technician. On November 13, 1959, Bill married Cecily Needham of Millbury, Massachusetts. They lived the following 16 years in Worcester and Shrewsbury before moving to Cape Cod in 1976. Bill founded and operated Wilmar Inc. in Worcester and provided television rental services to local hospitals. Bill’s life was centered on his love for his family and his community. He attended the St. Mary Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church in Worcester. Bill was engaged in numerous civic activities including the South Cape Beach State Park Advisory Committee, the Building Committee for Mashpee’s first high school and several environmental committees. A private funeral service honoring Bill’s life will be held at St. Mary’s Albanian Assumption Orthodox Church in Worcester. Burial will be at Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bill’s name to St. Mary’s Albanian Assumption Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609.
