William E. Lindquist

PAXTON – William E. Lindquist, 91, of Suomi Street, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester. Born in Worcester, Bill was the son of Charles and Signe (Stenvall) Lindquist and lived all of his life in Paxton.



Bill was raised in Paxton and attended Paxton Center School and graduated from South High School in 1941. In 1943, he enlisted and served during World War II with the U.S. Navy Air Corp as an aviation radioman and completed 35 missions in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After returning home from the war, he went to work for Northeast Airlines as a radio operator and later at National Cash Register where he worked 38 years retiring in 1984. He also worked part-time as a Paxton police officer for 28 years.



Participating in community activities was an important part of Bill’s life. He served as the veteran’s agent for the town of Paxton for 30 years and was also a longtime member of the Board of Appeals. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Paxton and was a Past Commander of the Paxton American Legion Post #306.



Bill was active in Masonry and was a member of Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons in Rutland for over 50 years. He was a 32 degree Mason and was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Worcester, Melha Shrine in Springfield and the Hampshire Shrine Club.



His wife of 54 years, Jeanne (Kerin) Lindquist, died in 2003. He is survived by his son, William E. Lindquist, Jr., of Leicester; two daughters, Barbara J. Dadah and Diane C. Lindquist both of Paxton; eight grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and his nephews and nieces. Besides his wife, Bill is predeceased by his daughter, Patricia L. Pond, his brother, Robert Lindquist, and his sister, Lillian Stockbridge.



Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bill’s family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A funeral service honoring his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, at the funeral home, followed by burial at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104-2396.
