William A. Johnson Iii

July 13, 1939 — June 27, 2024

HUBBARDSTON – William A. Johnson, III, 84, beloved husband of Muriel D. (Faucher) Johnson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the Lutheran Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center in Worcester. Raised in Lockport, IL, he was the son of the late William and Alma (Dove) Johnson.

Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Upon his return from military service, he went on to enjoy a long career as a mechanic in Sterling, where he owned and operated Johnson’s Garage for 28 years until his retirement in 2000. Always an active member of the community, he took pleasure in participating in the annual parades where he would chauffeur local veterans in his 1961 Cadillac. He will be remembered for his strong support of our Troops and the freedom we enjoy today.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 189, The Eight Point Sportsmen’s Club and a founding member of the West Sterling Hackers. Above all else, he was a dedicated family man. Bill was always present for his grandson’s baseball practices and never missed a Little League game.

He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife of 61 years, Muriel Johnson of Hubbardston; his son, Robert Johnson and his wife, Staci of Princeton; his daughter, Terre DiGregorio of Rutland; his two grandsons, Spencer and Sawyer Johnson; his twin sisters, Lois Kohler of Joliet, IL and Loris Dyar of Lockport, IL; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Carol Sue Marino.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Lutheran Home for the kind and compassionate care shown to Bill during his illness.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 18 in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home & Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.
