WESTMINSTER – William Lance Harrington, Sr., age 73, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at UMass Medical Center – University Campus in Worcester. Born in Holden, the son of the late Richard and Helen (Samples) Harrington.
Lance went to Wachusett Regional High School in Holden, class of 1967, and went on to work as a typesetter at Arrow Composition in West Boylston for many years before working as a driver at Atlas Distributors. He finished his career of over 25 years working in maintenance for the City of Leominster Parks and Recreation Department.
Lance’s greatest joy in life, next to spending time with his grandchildren, was watching his boys play hockey. Whether it was learn-to-skate at Lake Ave., the many, many youth tournaments throughout North America, state championship(s) at St. John’s, USHL games in Chicago, an NCAA National Championship at Norwich University, Division 1 NCAA Hockey at Canisius College, or watching his boys as NCAA coaches at Franklin Pierce University, the opportunities he provided his children will forever be endeared and never forgotten.
He loved cars, especially his 1967 Corvette, 1978 Chevy Scottsdale Pickup, and his 1995 Jeep Wrangler. He spent many summers vacationing on Cape Cod and exploring the Atlantic Ocean. He was an avid fisherman, enjoying many yearly trips to Lake Ontario with his brother Richard and friends. Lance loved animals, especially his dogs through the years and his donkey, Chester.
He leaves behind his two sons, William Lance Harrington, Jr., Esq. and his wife, Tara of Manchester, NH; Jaymie Harrington and his wife, Emilie of West Boylston; 2 brothers, Richard Harrington, Jr. of Suffield, CT, Markus Harrington and his partner, Peter Stanton Smith of North Uxbridge; 2 grandchildren, Joseph Kurtis Harrington, Branson Richard-Gwynne Harrington; his partner of 28 years, Patricia Quinn; and his ex-wife, Dorothy (L’Ecuyer) Harrington.
