Biography
NORTHBOROUGH – William M. Franklin, 98, formerly of Webster and Dudley now of Northborough, died on Monday, March 30th. He was born in Webster, a son of Meyer and Mary (Levinsky) Franklin and lived almost his entire life in Webster and Dudley before moving to Northborough in 2011.
His wife of many years, Mildred (Levitz) Franklin died in 2006. He leaves six sons, Rabbi Stephen Franklin and his wife, Karen of Yonkers, New York, Michael Franklin of Northborough, with whom he lived since 2011, Homer Sewell of Georgia, Barry Ferency, Gershon Ferency of Bat Ayin, Israel, Stuart Ferency and his wife, Susan of Hull, MA; a daughter, Anne, wife of Milton Teguis of Kennebunk, Maine and Estero, FL; two brothers, Jack Franklin of Dalton, MA, and Maurie Franklin of Miami Beach, FL; 22 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. His first wife, Rita (Fauer) Franklin died on September 2, 1967.
He owned and operated Biljac’s Dress Shop in Webster for many years until his retirement in 1991.
He was a member of the Congregation Sons of Israel of Webster and the Webster Lodge of Masons. He loved the Northborough Senior Center where he played the harmonica, sang, and enjoyed the exercise classes.
On September 22, 2013 at Fenway Park, where the Red Sox played Toronto, he was chosen to sing, “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” before a sold out crowd of 37,000 during the seventh inning stretch.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 1:00 PM ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 1ST IN TEMPLE EMANUEL SINAI, 280 MAY STREET, WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN. Burial will be in B’Nai Brith Cemetery in Worcester.
Immediately following the interment service, Memorial Observance will be held Wednesday afternoon thru Wednesday evening at the residence of Michael Franklin, 8 Hitching Post Lane, Northborough and will continue at the residence of Rabbi Stephen Franklin and Karen Franklin, 104 Franklin Avenue, Yonkers, New York, from 1PM Thursday afternoon through the evening of Thursday, April 2.
