RUTLAND/TOWNSEND - William F. Felton, 83, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at Baldwinville Nursing Home after an illness. He was born in Holden, the son of Albert N. and B. Elizabeth (Wales) Felton. In his early years he grew up in Rutland until he met the love of his life, Gail. They moved to Townsend where they decided to raise a family together. In the later years, they enjoyed the sunny state of Florida before moving back to Templeton.
William graduated from Rutland High School and later enlisted in the U.S. Army. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a Specialist 4th Class. He was the Highway Superintendent for the Town of Townsend for thirty plus years before retiring. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, camping, and especially his 1957 Chevy Apache truck. He was a character and a jokester, but his biggest accomplishments were the Husband, Dad and O'PA that he was. His love for his wife and children was remarkable but becoming a O'PA to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was another whole level of the man he was.
He leaves his loving wife of 58 years, Gail D. (Boucher) Felton of Baldwinville; his daughter, Wanda L. Felton-Tucker (Richard) of Templeton; his sons, Lumpy W.N. Felton (Roseann) of Templeton, and Kevin Michael Felton (Janice) of Lunenburg; 11 grandchildren Evan, Ethan, Eran, Elizabeth, Danny, Tommy, Annie, Paul, Erin, Abi, and Brittney; 9 great-grandchildren; a sister, Fay Payne of West Brookfield; a brother, Ralph Anderson of Rutland; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Newell Felton.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with William's family on Wednesday, April 19th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery in Rutland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jeremy Kauppila ROTC Scholarship fund, ℅ Quabbin Regional school district, 872 south Street Barre, MA 01005, or Project Stocking (military care packages) c/o Stars and Stripes Diner, 32 Main Street, Hubbardston, MA 01469.
