WATERVILLE, ME – William D. Smith, II, 83, formerly of Poughkeepsie, New York, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Rose Monahan Hospice Home after an illness. He was born in Poughkeepsie, New York, the son of William M. and Margaret M. (Davis) Smith. His wife of 33 years, Joyce (Brown) Smith, passed away on June 14, 2018. He leaves his two daughters, Caroli S. Flodstrom and her husband, Robert of Upton and Deborah S. Hodgkins and her husband, Stephen of Princeton; four grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Mark and Connor; three step-children, Susanne Fowler, Guy Ammeen and Sodd Ammeen; three step-grandchildren, Jessica, Marisa and Lillianna; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. William graduated from Hackley School in Tarrytown, NY and received his bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force after serving as a radar technician in Alaska and Buffalo, NY. William was a human resources executive in both manufacturing and health care in New Jersey and Connecticut. Prior to his retirement in 1997, he worked at Foxwoods Casino. He had many diverse interests including gardening, cooking, dancing, and football. His loyalty eventually changed from the NY Giants to the New England Patriots as he became a New Englander. He was active in many professional organizations, including the American Society of Personnel Administration, Connecticut Hospital Personnel Association, United Way, Chamber of Commerce and Senior Citizen Job Bank. A memorial service for Mr. Smith will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 25th at Christ Episcopal Church, 20 Carroll Street, Poughkeepsie, NY. A private committal service was held at Rural Cemetery in Poughkeepsie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rose Monahan Hospice House, 10 Judith Road, Worcester, MA 01609.
