WORCESTER – Charles W. Culross, Jr., 78, of May Street, died after a long illness on Sunday, February 6, 2011.
His wife of 31 years, Tazuko (Ishimura) Culross, died in 1986. He leaves his son, John Culross of Milford; six daughters, Sally-Ann Charest and her husband Mark of Princeton, Suzan Garabedian and her husband Ronald of Worcester, June Culross of Worcester, Janice Houle and her husband Todd of Colorado, Sandra Vaillant and her husband Peter of Jefferson and Amy Culross of Worcester; 16 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and a nephew. A sister, Nancy Riggles, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester and raised in Holden, the son of Charles W. and Gladys (Carlson) Culross, and lived many years in Worcester.
Mr. Culross served in the United States Navy for over 17 years, was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, serving aboard the USS Coontz, USS Wiltsie and the USS Niobrara. He was the recipient of the National Defense Medal (bronze star), United Nations Service Medal (bronze star), Korean Service Medal (3 stars), the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam) and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4 in Worcester.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9th in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A private funeral service will be held in the funeral home and will be followed by military honors at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
