STERLING - Wayne C. Robertson, 79, of Sterling passed away at home on April 13, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Jean (Gallant) Robertson to whom he was married for 28 years.
Born in Newport, New Hampshire, he was the son of the late Evelyn (Fortune) Robertson Drouin and the late George Robertson. An Army veteran of the Korean War era, Wayne was stationed at Camp Desert Rock, Nevada where he participated in the Yucca Flat atomic bomb test of 1953 and at Eielson Air Force Base, Fairbanks, Alaska.
He lived in Worcester for many years before relocating to Sterling in 1995. He was employed as a facilities engineer at Allegro Microsystems, formerly Sprague Electric, for 36 years before retiring in 1999.
In addition to his wife, Wayne is survived by his son, Franklin of Oak Hill, Florida and his daughter, Roxanne and her husband, Daniel Sutherland of Rutland; four grandchildren in whom he took great pride, Lindsay, Courtney, Brianne and Christopher; former wife and mother of his children, Elizabeth Robertson; sisters, Marsha and her husband, Glenn Kaprielian of Bakersfield, California, and Kathie Edwards, of Raleigh Durham, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Janice wife of the late Richard MacDonald of Charlestown, New Hampshire; brother-in-law, John of Ft. Myers, Florida; cousin Sandra, wife of Arnold Moulton of Newport, New Hampshire; and several nieces and nephews.
Wayne embraced life, enjoying activities that ranged from sky diving, scuba diving, piloting a private plane, boating and motorcycle riding. He was an avid reader, music lover and was a member of the Boylston Lodge of Masons in West Boylston. Wayne’s sense of humor and easy banter earned him countless lifelong friends.
The family wishes to thank the UMass Memorial Oncology Team and the UMass Memorial Hospice Team, especially Gail and Allison, for their loving care.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. A private committal service with military honors will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 GlenAllen Street, Winchendon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701; or to UMass Memorial Hospice, Development Office, 333 South Street, 4th Floor, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
