RUTLAND – Wayne D. Ridley, 85, of 58 Bushy Lane, died Saturday, January 28, 2006, in Holden Nursing Home from complications due of Parkinson’s disease.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Helen B. (Case) Ridley; three sons, Wayne D. Ridley, Jr. and his wife Peggy Prynoski of Leicester, Herbert C. Ridley and his wife Pam of Gardner and the Rev. Dr. Gary J. Ridley and his wife Carol of Glennallen, Alaska; a daughter, Bonnie L. Ridley-Paddock of Rutland; a sister, Janice Rehrig of New Jersey; 13 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was born in Worcester the son of Edgar M. and Kathryn I. (Jones) Ridley and lived 35 years in Holden before moving to Rutland in 1986. He graduated North High School and attended Northeastern University in Boston. He was a World War II Army veteran serving in the European theater.
Mr. Ridley owned and operated Ridley’s Texaco gas station at 33 Gold Street in Worcester for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Pleasant Street Baptist Church and enjoyed camping and hiking with his family.
A memorial service for Mr. Ridley will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will be private in Rural Cemetery, 180 Grove Street, Worcester. A calling hour will be held from 12 noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pleasant Street Baptist Church, 6 Ashland Street, Worcester, MA 01609; or a charity of one’s choice.
