HOLDEN – Warren G. Gardner, 89, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, in the home that he built with the help of family and friends. His immediate family, with the help of hospice care, saw him off to his next journey. Born and raised in Holden, Warren was the son of Gerald B. and Ruth M. (Southwick) Gardner and lived here all of his life. Warren graduated from Holden High School in 1946 and honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. After returning home, he attended Franklin Technical Automotive School. He married the love of his life Gloria L. Davis on April 19, 1952 at the First Baptist Church of Holden. Warren worked as a mechanic at Chaffin’s Garage in Holden and later for the Wesolowski brothers at Jefferson Service Station. In 1971, Warren and his wife Gloria bought the Jefferson Service Station which they operated for 46 years with the assistance of their sons. The service station continues to be operated by three of his sons. Warren loved fixing anything that was broken or didn’t work. He built his own tractor to haul logs and snow-blow the driveway. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and owned several throughout his lifetime including an Indian and Ariel, which he considered his favorites. Warren also enjoyed attending antique engine shows throughout New England. He cut his own lumber to build anything he wanted; be it a shed, school desk, cedar chest, wooden vase or kitchen cabinets…he made it all. Warren could be found puttering around the house or working in his garden. Most of all, he loved family cookouts with all that homemade food. Oh!…and don’t forget those summertime Lobster Rolls. He will be affectionately remembered by his beloved wife of 65 years, Gloria L. (Davis) Gardner; four sons, Warren “Jerry” G. Gardner of Shrewsbury, Vermont, John E. Gardner and his wife, Brenda of Hubbardston, Paul A. Gardner of Barre and his wife, Paula of Worcester and David M.
