STERLING – Warren E. Cheever, 93, of Fuller Street in Clinton, formerly a 55-year resident of Sterling, died on Sunday, February 12, 2012 in UMass Memorial Healthcare-University Campus, Worcester.
Warren was born on July 28, 1918 in Worcester, son of Perry W. and Elsie M. (Bombard) Cheever, and was a graduate of Beal High School in Shrewsbury. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Co. C, 349 Infantry 804th military police battalion. For 35 years, he worked for Verizon retiring as an inspector in 1983.
He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 6907 in West Boylston, the Hiram O. Taylor American Legion Post 189 in Sterling, the New England Telephone Pioneers, first trustee and historian of the New England Country Music Club in Uxbridge and a member of St. Richard of Chichester Church in Sterling.
He is survived by his son, Patrick W. Cheever of Clinton; a niece, Leona M. Pimentel of Uxbridge; 4 grandchildren, Shawn, Christopher, Joshua and Paul; and many nephews and nieces. His wife, Doris M. (Skelly) Cheever, died in 1976. A brother, Earl J. Cheever and a sister, Viola M. Demrest predeceased him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 17, and at 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling, followed by a procession to St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Parker Road, Lancaster. Donations in his memory may be sent to American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St., 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210.
