HOLDEN – Walter J. Bonczek, 89, of 120 Doyle Road, was stricken ill at home and died Wednesday, February 1, 2006 in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.
His wife of 55 years, Dorothy D. (Dolan) Bonczek, died in 1997. He leaves two daughters, Beverly A. Mallard of Charlotte, North Carolina and Elizabeth A. Massey of Whitinsville; six grandsons, Timothy Mallard, Torin and Jesse Zender, Mark, Christopher and Stephen LaRusso; many nephews and nieces. A daughter, Diane D. LaRusso, died in 1992. He was born in Worcester the son of Stanley and Eleanora (Plona) Bonczek and lived 60 years in Holden.
Mr. Bonczek graduated from Classical High School in Worcester and worked at Johnson Steel Company in Worcester for 40 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. George’s Church, the Greendale Men’s Club both in Worcester and the Knights of Columbus formerly in Holden. He coached Holden Little League Baseball and organized and coached the girl’s basketball league for the Chaffin Recreational Association in Holden. He was an avid gardener.
The funeral for Mr. Bonczek will be held on Saturday, February 4, from the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. George’s Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1325 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 3, in the funeral home.
