UNION, CT - Walter W. Bliss, 55, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at Hartford Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Stafford Springs, CT, the son of Eleanor L. (Farmer) Bliss and the late Howard R. Bliss and had lived for many years in Vermont before moving back to Union.
Walt dedicated a large part of his life to helping young adults and seniors with disabilities. He worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Washington County Mental Health in Barre, VT, and most recently was a developmental home provider at his home in Stowe, VT.
Everyone that knew Walt was immediately drawn to his vibrant and charismatic personality. His sarcastic sense of humor could not be rivaled. He was an amazing caretaker for his mother, and he wanted to make sure that she was still taken care of when he was gone. When asked what charity he would like memorial contributions to be made to he simply stated "In lieu of flowers send cash and dumpsters." Walt was loved by many and every piece of him will be greatly missed.
He leaves his mother, Eleanor L. (Farmer) Bliss; his brother, William Bliss and his partner Cynthia Yemma of RI; his nephew Cody Bliss of CT; and his niece Courtney Bliss-Souda and her husband David Souda of MA. He was predeceased by his sister, Donna Bliss, and his father, Howard R. Bliss.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 4th in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Funeral services for Walter are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, and per Walt's request, a GoFundMe has been created to help support Eleanor.
