HOLDEN – Wallace “Wally” B. Seger, 90, formerly of North Main Street in the Jefferson section of Holden, died peacefully in the presence of his loving family on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Sterling Village in Sterling after an illness. Born in Worcester and raised in Rutland, he was the son of Burton W. and Evelyn A. (Abbott) Seger and lived many years in Holden.
Wally attended Rutland schools, Worcester Boys Trade and worked 34 years at Wyman Gordon Co. in Worcester retiring in 1983. He honorably served his country during World War II as a Chief Petty Officer with the United States Navy serving in the European Theatre. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Holden and the Holden Grange.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Boylston Lodge of Masons in West Boylston, Scottish Rite Bodies - Valley of Worcester, Massachusetts Consistory and the Forge Shop Hirams at Wyman Gordon Co.
His wife of 43 years, Blanche L. (Graham) Seger, died in 1992. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his son, Burton A. Seger of Jefferson; two daughters, Linda G. Seger-Shippee of Ashburnham and Louise E. Charbonneau and her husband Scott of Holden; a brother, David C. Seger of Fulton, IL; two grandchildren, David Charbonneau of Brighton and Andrew Charbonneau and his wife Kristen of Worcester; nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by three brothers, Daniel B., Clifford E. and Herbert A. Seger; and a son-in-law, Thomas “TJ” Shippee.
Wally enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, bowling, horseshoes, and baking pies and bread for his family. He loved volunteering his time at church, the Grange and for the boy scouts and will be remembered by his family and friends for his kind and selfless nature.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 4, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A funeral service celebrating Wally’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, at the funeral home with interment following at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boylston Lodge of Masons, P.O. Box 225, West Boylston, MA 01583.
