W. Everett Mason

June 7, 1927 — February 14, 2014

HOLDEN – W. Everett Mason, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 14, 2014. He was born in Rawdon, Nova Scotia, Canada, the son of William H. and Alice G. (Howe) Mason.
He leaves his loving wife of 68 years, Shirley H. (Hanson) Mason; two sons, Gary W. Mason and his wife, Anne of Venice, FL and Dennis E. Mason and his wife, Peggy of Yarmouth Port; a daughter, Judith S. Thompson and her husband, Harvey of New Marlboro; a sister, Ruth Jenkins of Holden; six grandchildren, Scott Thompson and his wife, Pamela of Leesburg, VA, Christopher Thompson and his wife, Beatrice of Bantam, CT, Dawn Reed of Watsontown, PA, Douglas Mason and his wife, Tara of South Yarmouth, Garrett Mason of New Orleans, LA and Jennifer Garcia and her husband, Anthony of Longmont, CO; seven great-grandchildren, Samantha and Abigail Reed, Colin and Kaleigh Mason and Lauren, Grace and Elsa Thompson; and nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his sister, Olive Van Wert.

After high school, Everett enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country during World War II. He was a seaman first class with the Seabees and earned the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. Following the war, he became a rural letter carrier for 27 years for the U.S. Postal Service in the Town of Holden retiring in 1989. He also was a school bus driver for area bus companies for over 45 years retiring six years ago. He was a member of the Heritage Bible Chapel in Princeton, the Holden Historical Society and was past president of the Chaffin Men’s Club. He volunteered at the Gale Free Library and was an avid genealogist. He enjoyed working in his garden and in his yard.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date at the Heritage Bible Chapel in Princeton. A committal service will be held at Grove Cemetery in Holden in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Bible Chapel, Missions Fund, P.O. Box 1096, Princeton, MA 01541.
