Biography
LEOMINSTER – Vivienne (Goldfarb) Jones, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, June 9th in Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester, with her husband and children at her side.
She leaves her husband of 61 years, Herbert D. Jones; 3 sons, Gary Jones and his wife, Jill of West Hartford, CT, Brian Jones and his wife, Pamela of Franklin, MA, and Richard Jones and his wife, Abigail Kramer of Brookline, MA; a daughter, Patti Smith of Worcester and her partner Rory Miller; a brother Matthew Goldfarb of Portland, ME and his wife Lynn; and twelve grandchildren, Collin, Courtney, Joshua, Harrison, Samuel, Jonathan, Ethan, Rebecca, Aaron, Jessica, Elizabeth, and Nathan.
Vivienne was born in Swampscott, MA and was the daughter of Samuel and Frances Goldfarb. After growing up and completing college in Portland, ME, Vivienne moved to Boston and married Herb in 1954. She lived in Leominster from 1957 until her death except for a five-year period from 1970-1975, when the family lived in Bedford, NH.
Vivienne was a valued volunteer for many community organizations. In Bedford, she taught nursery school. During her many years in Leominster, she volunteered for both Jewish and secular causes, including supporting the cultural affairs activities of the city of Leominster and serving on the Leominster Hospital Guild. Among her activities in the Jewish community, she has served as the Secretary of the Board of Directors of Congregation Agudat Achim of Leominster and was a Life Trustee of the synagogue. She will be remembered for helping to foster the Jewish education of students in around Leominster for many years as principal of the Hebrew School of the synagogue. She was also Past President of the Sisterhood of the Congregation Agudat Achim and the Leominster chapter of Hadassah. For her long-term service to the Congregation and the Jewish community, she received the Light of the Torah Award from the New England Chapter of Sisterhood. Finally, Vivienne and Herb were honored together in 2014 with the Lifetime Achievement Award for their leadership and commitment to their synagogue.
Vivienne will be sorely missed but long-remembered by friends and family of all generations for her loving and welcoming way of treating people and for her uncommonly sweet disposition.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Sunday, June 14th at Congregation Agudat Achim, 268 Washington Street, Leominster under the direction of Richard Perlman of Miles Funeral Home of Holden. Burial will occur immediately after at Agudat Achim Cemetery in Fitchburg.
Following the interment, a memorial observance will be held at Congregation Agudat Achim, 268 Washington Street, Leominster through Sunday afternoon and later at the family’s residence, 24 Cumberland Road, Leominster from 7PM to 9PM. Shiva will continue at the family residence on Monday, June 15th and Tuesday, June 16th from 2PM to 4PM and from 7PM to 9PM. Memorial observance will continue at the residence of Gary and Jill Jones, 10 High Point Lane, West Hartford, CT from 2PM to 4PM and from 7PM to 9PM on Wednesday, June 17th and Thursday, June 18th.
