WORCESTER – Vivian F. (Rathay) Ryan, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 27, 2012, while in the care of Brookhaven Hospice and the loving and compassionate staff at Sterling Village. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert J. Ryan and her brother, Roland Rathay.
She leaves her devoted daughter, Sharon M. Soucy and her husband Edwin of Princeton; her daughter, Holly A. Ryan of Vero Beach, FL; and a loving son, Robert J. Ryan of Worcester. She also leaves three grandsons, three great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters, her sister, Glorianne Peck of Sterling, her sister-in-law, Estelle Rathay of Worcester, and many nephews, nieces and friends.
Vivian was born in Worcester, the daughter of Aime J. and Fedora (Lapierre) Rathay and resided most of her life in Worcester. She graduated from Commerce High School and worked many years at Heald Machine Company and the Worcester Telegram and Gazette. She was a member of St. George’s Church, the Worcester Business-Women’s Club, volunteered for many local charities and was an accomplished seamstress, milliner and cook.
A 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 2, in St. George’s Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Interment will be private at St. John’s Cemetery in Worcester. In accordance with her wishes, there are no calling hours. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at a later date at St. Helen’s Church, Vero Beach, Fl. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Florida Chapter, 4360 Northlake Blvd., Palm Beach, FL 33410, or The Butterfly Foundation, Inc., 6 Beech Street, Framingham, MA 01702. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
