Virginia D. (Nott) Prouty

August 24, 1936 — June 21, 2015

WORCESTER/THOMPSON, CT – Virginia D. (Nott) Prouty, 78, formerly of Worcester, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at UMass Memorial Healthcare – University Campus, Worcester. Born and raised in Worcester, Ginny was the daughter of Harold R. and Fannie (Granfors) Nott and lived the last eight years in Thompson, Connecticut.

Her husband of 41 years, Herbert M. Prouty died at the age of 64 in 2003. She leaves her three sons, Craig S. Prouty and his wife, Wendy of Westborough, Scott R. Prouty and his wife Tracy of Thompson, and Dwayne J. Prouty and his wife, Laura of Thompson; six grandchildren, Drew, Dylan, Jake, Stephanie, Sophia and Nicholas.

Ginny graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester and worked 30 years for New England Telephone Company, later Nynex, retiring in 1997. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Worcester. After marrying the love of her life, Herb Prouty in 1961, Ginny moved to the Tatnuck section of Worcester where together they raised their three sons.

She loved baking for her family and friends and spending time with her black poodle, “Stevie Harvey”. Among her favorite pastimes were watching her son work in her yard which he meticulously cared for, and when the work was done, simply enjoying the many birds that visited her bird feeders.

Age and illness were never obstacles for Ginny. She was adventurous and always on the move; traveling, preparing for a family gathering, or using Facebook which connected her to her many friends. First and foremost, Ginny was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and friend. She was proud of her children and their many accomplishments and was always looking forward to the next event that would bring her family together. She cherished her role as a wife, mother and grandmother and never took that responsibility lightly. She was a nurturing presence in their lives and always led gently by example.

Ginny’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the ICU staff 3, 7 and Cardiac and the doctors of UMass Memorial in addition to the South County Dialysis in Webster for their care and compassion.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ginny’s family from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A funeral service honoring Ginny’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main St., Worcester. Interment will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Thompson Animal Control, 815 Riverside Dr. PO Box 899 Thompson, CT 06255 or the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852.
