HOLDEN/ FITCHBURG – Virginia “Ginny” N. (McAvoy) Sullivan, 85, formerly of Holden, passed away peacefully in her home in Fitchburg on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, under the loving care of her family and the staff at Health Alliance Hospice, Leominster. She was born in Worcester on August 16, 1926 the daughter of Joseph and Nora (Tynan) McAvoy and lived 25 years in Holden before moving to Fitchburg in 1984.
Ginny graduated from Commerce High School, Worcester, in 1943. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson, Oak Hill Country Club in Fitchburg, Legacy Country Club and The WOW’s both in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Ginny was a role model to her children and extended family in every way. She had a strong love of her country and church while she lived the Golden Rule to always help others above herself.
Her inner strength was her most endearing character as she walked through life with her chin up, shoulders back and a smile to light up the lives around her. Her loss on this earth will be the gain of family and friends who have left before her and await her.
Her beloved husband of 41 years, John “Jack” J. Sullivan, died in 1988. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her two sons, Joseph G. Sullivan and his wife Susan of Holden and Michael J. Sullivan and his wife Glenna of Rutland; three daughters, Debra A. Sullivan and her husband Daniel Murray of Southport, North Carolina, Joan C. Sullivan and her husband Lawrence Lynch of Somers, Connecticut and Jean S. Catlin and her husband Thomas of Mebane, North Carolina; nine grandchildren, Glenn, Mark, Timothy and Matthew Sullivan, Corinne Balyk, Jay and Rene Jumonville, Kate and Jacqueline Catlin; and 10 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 17, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A funeral Mass celebrating Ginny’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, at St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Health Alliance Hospice, 25 Tucker Dr., Leominster, MA 01453 or the charity of your choice.
