SHREWSBURY/MILLBURY – Virgil “Virg” G. King, 84, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at St. Vincent Hospital after an illness. He was born in Burlington, VT, the son of Clyde G. and Irene (Parent) King and lived in Shrewsbury for 48 years before moving to Millbury.
He leaves his wife of 64 years, Marion E. (Seymour) King; two daughters, Diane Watkins of Hubbardston and Cheryl Keller and her husband, Scott of Millbury; two sons, Michael King and his wife, Nancy of Oxford and Kevin King of Millbury; a sister, Theresa Genander of Beachwood, NJ; six grandchildren, Ben Keller and his wife, Nicole, Nicky King and her companion, Christopher Shrum, Maegan Powers and her husband, James, Joshua Watkins and his fiancée, Barbara Sanchez, Deirdre Watkins and Kassie Keller; four great-grandchildren, Moira, Ryan, Macie and Keegan; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers, Clyde and Harold King, a sister, Lorraine Grout and a son-in-law, Jonathan Watkins.
Virgil was a truck driver at Heald Machine for 38 years retiring in 1992. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, an avid Red Sox fan and at one time he had been an active member of the Boys Scouts of America. He enjoyed water walking at the Y, bowling, camping, and trips to Cape Cod and New Jersey. Virgil enjoyed spending time with his family and loved being “Pops” and “Papa” to his children, grand and great-grandchildren. He will always be remembered by his infectious smile.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. The funeral for Mr. King will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, in Epworth United Methodist Church, 64 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
