WORCESTER - Veronika (Majoros) Bentekovics, aged 91, peacefully departed from this world on February 23, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester.
Born in Nagyhalasz, Hungary, Veronika was the cherished daughter of the late Ferenc Majoros and Borbala (Kerkesz) Majoros. In Hungary, she entered a lifelong marriage with her beloved late husband, Ferenc Bentekovics. Fleeing the tumultuous times in Hungary in 1956, Veronika found refuge in Austria and later at Camp Kilmer in New Jersey before establishing her home in Holden and ultimately settling in Worcester.
Veronika dedicated many years of her life as a housekeeper at UMass Memorial, leaving an indelible mark with her hard work and dedication. Her passions were as diverse as they were deep-rooted – from her love of cooking and music to her prowess as a Hungarian folk dancer in her earlier years. A woman of unwavering faith, Veronika found solace in prayer, ensuring that her family and children were always at the forefront of her thoughts.
Family was the cornerstone of Veronika's existence, and her legacy lives on through her son Frank Bentekovics of Worcester and daughters Mary Powers of Holden, Veronika Bentekovics, and Suzy Boyd, both of Worcester. She is also survived by her sister Eva Hajos of Worcester. Veronika leaves behind a rich tapestry of nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, each a testament to the love and warmth she bestowed upon her family.
Calling hours to celebrate Veronika's life will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Following the Calling Hours, a Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:30 AM at Saint George Catholic Church, 40 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will be held privately.
