RUTLAND – Vera K. (Maki) Sobal, 88, of Mark Circle, died Thursday, April 10, 2014 at UMass Memorial Healthcare, University Campus after an illness. She was born in Spencer, raised in Leicester and was the daughter of the late John August and Aino (Kopsa) Maki and had live in Rutland for over 44 years.
Vera worked for Paper Craft Company in Worcester and for several years was a waitress at the Lake Ripple Restaurant in Grafton. Previously, she worked on a press for the Lindquist Tool Co. She was an active member of the Southwick Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 872 and the U.S. Navy Armed Guard World War II Veteran’s Association. Vera was extremely proud of her patriotism and participated and marched in many parades. She loved vacationing at Cape Cod and working on the family farm in Rutland.
Her beloved husband of 46 years, Albert H. Sobal, passed away in 2008. She is survived by her son, Charles Thomas Nordstrom and his wife, Christine of Kentucky; a daughter, Linda Maki of Wisconsin; thirteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Juhanas Klyma, and Einar, Elmer and Ero Maki.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Vera’s family from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, April 14th in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden followed by a service at 1 p.m. to honor her life. Interment will be in Worcester County Memorial Park , Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to C.A. Lloyd, Chairman, U.S.N.
