HOLDEN/WORCESTER – Valerie H. (McInnis) Burchill, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at home.
Val was born in Milltown, New Brunswick, Canada, on June 6, 1925, the daughter of Arthur W. and Mary (Fishwick) McInnis. She attended St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Saint John, N.B., Canada. After moving to the United States in 1958, she worked many years at St. Vincent Hospital. Val later worked as an aide for the Worcester Public School District and also was employed at O’Brien Religious Store retiring in 1995. She was an active member of the Mt. Carmel Church Golden Years.
Her loving husband of 52 years, Everett W. Burchill, passed away in 1997. Valerie is survived by her six daughters, Karen Larivee of Milford, Susan Verow of Texas, Margaret Bondar of Worcester, Judy Staruk of Tennessee, Deborah Staruk and her husband, John of Holden and Anne Marie Burchill of Florida; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Burchill of Florida; a niece, Paddie Hunt and her husband, Richard of Littleton; fourteen grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. Val will be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews in addition to her dedicated and dear friend, Nancy Walnista. Valerie was predeceased by her son, Terry Burchill; her granddaughter, Frances Verow; two brothers, Donald and Graham McInnis; her sister, Doreen Middlemiss; and three sons-in-law, Richard Bondar, Stephen Larivee and Lester Verow.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Beacon Hospice, especially, Nurse Karen Sisko.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Funeral services for Valerie will be held from the funeral home on Saturday, Oct. 17, with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery in Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
