Biography
WORCESTER - Valentine A. Kahlau, 83, passed away peacefully under the loving care of his family and the staff at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center in Worcester on Sunday, April 12, 2015. Val was born in Lithuania the youngest of six siblings and lived in Germany before moving to the United States in 1956. He later lived many years in Newington, Connecticut before retiring to Corinth, Vermont.

Val enjoyed a 37 year career in the aerospace industry manufacturing precision engine components, retiring from Textron (Pratt & Whitney) in 1992. He was self-taught man and could speak five languages. Val was affectionately known as “the boss” at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center where he made many close friends.

His beloved wife of 55 years, Gisela (Scheurer) Kahlau, died in 2008. He leaves his son, Rene L. Kahlau and his wife Traude of Princeton; two loving sisters, Joanna Melninkas and Albina Palulis both of Connecticut; two grandchildren, Eric S. Kahlau of Princeton and Lisa K. Russell and her husband Jack of Dudley; five great grandchildren; nephews and nieces.

A remembrance service will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Val’s memory for patient activities at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, 555 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01605; ( http://www.notredamehealthcare.org/support-us/donate-now ). Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden is assisting Val’s family with arrangements.
