RUTLAND – Ugo A. Alinovi, 82, of 21 Miles Road, was stricken ill at home and died Friday, October 15, 2004, in UMass Medical Center, Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Joanne R. (Culver) Alinovi; two daughters, Jane L. Alinovi of Springfield, and Diane G. Alinovi and her husband Normand Bijeau of Berlin, New Hampshire; two sisters, Rena Estes of Mountain View, California, and Sister Aldina Alinovi with the Sisters of Mercy in Worcester; two grandchildren, Karisa K. Glantz of New York City and Tanner D. Glantz of Newington, Connecticut. A sister, Irma Bozzi, and a brother, Attilio C. Alinovi predeceased him. He was born in Rutland, son of Pietro and Dina (Sartori) Alinovi, and lived here all his life.

Mr. Alinovi graduated from Rutland High School in 1937 and worked at Heald Machine Company in Worcester for 32 years, retiring in 1981. He was a long time police officer in Rutland and served as Deputy Police Chief from 1965 to 1970 and Police Chief from 1971 to 1977. He was the last to serve as a part-time police chief for the town of Rutland. He served as the Rutland Town Constable from 1995 to present and was an election officer for the past several years. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.

The funeral Mass for Mr. Alinovi wild be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, in St. Patrick’s Church, 258 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 22, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rutland Senior Center Building Fund, c/o Dale Hayden, Friends of the Council on Aging, 250 Main Street, Rutland, MA 01543.
