NORTH ADAMS/HOLDEN – Mildred T. (Taylor) Welsh, 87, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 31, 2006, in her home in North Adams after an illness.
Her husband of 50 years, Kenneth H. Welsh, died in 2000. She leaves three daughters, Virginia M. Siam with whom she lived, Charlene M. Abrams of Petaluma, California and Roxanne Geuss of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; 8 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. A brother, Alfred Taylor, predeceased her. She was born in Wilton, Connecticut the daughter of Alfred R. and Mary A. (Mulvey) Taylor and lived 72 years in Holden before moving to North Adams in 2000.
Mrs. Welsh worked for the Holden Fire Department as a fire alarm operator from her home. From 1971 to 1987, she was a crossing guard at Rice Elementary and Holden Junior High School in Holden. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Holden and the Holden Grange. She enjoyed spending time in the Adult Day Care Center in North Adams.
The funeral service for Mrs. Welsh will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 3, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, 1290 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VNA Hospice, 535 Curran Memorial Highway, North Adams, MA 01247.
