WEST BOYLSTON – Helen T. (Thorell) Douty, 91, of Prescott Street, died peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 in the Sterling Village, Sterling. Her husband of 29 years, Leslie A. Douty, died in 1977.
She leaves her family with whom she lived, her daughter, Elaine S. Novia, her husband James and two grandchildren, Patrick J. Novia and Sarah L. Novia; a brother, Warren O. Thorell of Princeton; and many nephews and nieces. Three sisters, Doris H. Willard, Florence H. Genis and Marion E. Thorell, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Oscar E. and Signe H. (Johnson) Thorell and lived in 30 years in Princeton before moving to West Boylston in 1952.
Helen was a graduate of North High in Worcester and worked as a clerk at the West Boylston Municipal Light Plant for many years, retiring in 1985. Previously she worked at Norton Company in Worcester. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of West Boylston, the Leominster Art Association, and member and volunteer at the West Boylston Council on Aging. Her special joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, oil painting, knitting, completing jig saw and crossword puzzles and collecting teddy bears.
Helen's family would like to thank the staff at Clinton Hospital, Sterling Village and her home care providers for their kindness and compassion.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Helen's family between 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 14th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, followed by a Service of Remembrance at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be private in Woodlawn Cemetery, Princeton. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
