HOLDEN/WEST BRIDGEWATER - Thomas F. Meany, 74, of the Jefferson section of Holden and formerly of West Bridgewater, died peacefully at home on Sunday, September 16, 2018. He was born in Boston, the son of the late John W. and Sara J. (McDonough) Meany.
Tom grew up in Roslindale and graduated from Boston English High School. As a young man he learned masonry and bricklaying which he continued to do for many years. He married the love of his life, Janis L. Condon in Easton in 1972 and the couple lived in Brockton before settling in West Bridgewater to raise their family. Tom went on to work as a Court Reporter and was assigned to Brockton Superior Court where he worked for several years. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves, for 27 years. His real passion was his family and his life was centered around being a husband, father and grandfather. Tom had been active in the West Bridgewater Youth Athletic Association as a coach and volunteer for several years. He was an avid golfer for many years. After retirement, he and Janis moved to Jefferson to be closer to their beloved grandchildren.
Tom will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Janis Louise (Condon) Meany; his daughter, Maureen Ellen Meany of Framingham; his son, John William Meany and his wife, Jessica of Jefferson; his sisters, Mary Cochran and Patricia Meany, both of Plymouth; his grandchildren, Thomas Kirk Meany, William Edward Meany and Quinn Sara Meany. He was predeceased by his sister, Sara Saisa.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Tom's family from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, and again at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 21, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden before leaving in procession to St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton St., Jefferson for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Main St., Holden.
