Thomas C. Lekas

January 3, 1935 — March 26, 2018

WORCESTER - Thomas C. Lekas, age 83, of Worcester, passed away at Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester on March 26, 2018, following a long and brave battle with Multiple System Atrophy--Pure Autonomic Failure.

Tom was born in 1935 in Glina, Albania, the only son and eldest of three children of the late Constantine and Helen (Gikas) Lekas.  In February 1937, when Tom was two years old, he and his mother came to the United States, where his father had already settled in Worcester.  In 1953, Tom graduated from Fitchburg High School, Fitchburg, MA where he was valedictorian of his class. He then attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1957, and was a member of Tau Beta Pi honorary engineering society and the social fraternity Phi Gamma Delta.  He received an MBA from Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY in 1958, and went to work for Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY where he spent 33 years as an Industrial Engineer, Technical Sales Representative, and Business Manager in various locations, including Topsfield, MA; Oakton, VA; Bel Air, MD; and Rochester, NY.  Following retirement from Kodak in 1991, he worked in Raleigh, NC for a Kodak dealer for 5 years, before finally retiring to his home in Pittsford, NY.  In 2010, Pat and Tom moved to Worcester to be nearer their children and other family members.

Tom was an avid lifelong duplicate bridge player, who achieved Life Master status many years ago.  He coached Little League in Penfield, NY when his son was on the team.  Tom also enjoyed gardening and bird watching.  But most of all, Tom was happiest when spending time with family and friends gathered together.

On June 27, 1959, Tom married Patricia Robelen, daughter of the late Raymond and Helen (Weisser) Robelen, who survives him.  He is also survived by his beloved children, daughter and daughter-in-law, Cynthia Helen Lekas and Elizabeth Ann Alletto of Upton, MA, and son,  C. Michael Lekas of Alexandria, VA;  dear sister Katherine (Peter) Capsalis; brother-in-law Frank D’Elia, Jr.; uncle Spiros (the late Antonia) Gikas; cousins Christopher (the late Yolanda) Lekas; Ethel Lekas (the late Charles) Demarky; Helen Lekas (Matthew) Panagiotou; Reverend Basil (Mindy) Gikas; and Christine Gikas (Dino) Kostantakis; three nieces; two nephews; five grandnieces and one grandnephew.  He was predeceased by his sister Anna Lekas D’Elia in 2008 and his cousin Arthur (the late Anne) Lekas in 1992.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 12th from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, MA.  Funeral services will be private.  Per Tom’s wishes, he will be cremated and inurned at White Haven Memorial Park, Pittsford, NY.  Memorial contributions may be made to The Multiple System Atrophy Coalition, “In Memory of Thomas Lekas”, 9935-D Rea Road, #212, Charlotte, NC 28277.  To share a memory or offer a condolence, please visit our "Guest Book" here on this page.
