Thomas W. Harding

September 18, 1924 — July 30, 2012

WORCESTER/WEST BOYLSTON – Thomas W. Harding, 87, formerly of West Boylston, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2012 at UMass Memorial Healthcare – Memorial Campus after an illness. He was born in Worcester, the son of Joseph William and Sarah A. (Whipp) Harding and graduated from South High School in 1942.

His wife, Virginia Irene (Carlson) Harding passed away in 2010. He leaves a step-son, David Rowell and his wife Joyce of Leicester; a step-daughter, Jane Cheneille and her husband John of Granby; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild. His son, Craig T. Harding, predeceased him on July 19, 2012.

Tom was a signalman 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy during World War II and survived the sinking of his ship the USS Nauset on September 9, 1943. After serving his country, Tom was a bus driver for the MBTA and the WRTA before retiring. He was a member and sang in the choir at the Salem Covenant Church in Worcester. He was also a member of the Worcester Model Railroads Association and enjoyed collecting anything to do with trolleys.

A memorial service for Tom and his son Craig will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 5, at the Salem Covenant Church, 215 East Mountain Street, Worcester, MA 01606. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salem Covenant Church, Organ Fund. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
