HUBBARDSTON – Theresa (Hoogendyk) Shaffer, 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 9, 2018.
Her husband of 62 years, Albert E. Shaffer, passed away in 2008. She leaves her son, Robert W. Shaffer II and his wife, Mary of East Templeton; two grandchildren, Valerie Shaffer of Worcester and Lynsey Shaffer and her fiancé, Patrick McKinney of Boston; her brother, Arthur Hoogendyk of Whitinsville; her sister, Henrietta Hoogendyk of Whitinsville; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Hoogendyk and sisters, Priscilla Hoogendyk, Annie Heerdt and Elsie Marean.
Theresa was born in Whitinsville, the eldest daughter of William A. and Elizabeth (Haringa) Hoogendyk and was a longtime resident of Hubbardston. She worked for several companies, including Blue Eagle Inn in Whitinsville and Wheeler’s Store in Hubbardston before she retired from Simplex Time Recorder in Gardner.
Theresa was a marvelous baker and in her leisure time she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, embroidery work, ten pin bowling and walks around the Barre Dam. She was a former member of the Christian Reform Church and the Barre Congregational Church.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Burial will follow at Rural Glen Cemetery, Hubbardston.
