Theresa Elizabeth Gusek

RUTLAND - Theresa Elizabeth (Corbin) Gusek, 49, of Rutland, passed away peacefully Monday morning, April 10, 2017, under the care of her loving husband and Overlook Hospice. Theresa was born in Brockport, NY, April 26, 1967 a daughter of Patricia E. (Morris) Corbin and the late William R. Corbin.  She lived in Brockport until attending Nazareth College.  After graduation she went to Hunter College in New York, NY, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Education.  Theresa began her teaching career in the Bronx, and then moved on to Dobb’s Ferry, NY at which time she met her husband Kurt W. Gusek.  After they married Theresa and Kurt settled in Rutland.  She continued her teaching career at JR Briggs Elementary school in Ashburnham where she was part of their family for over fifteen years as a first grade teacher. Theresa was passionate about teaching and instilling in her students a love of reading. She left a lasting impression on both her students and their families, many of which have remained in touch with her to this day.  She loved taking trips to the beach, especially Montauk, NY.  Most of all, Theresa loved her family. Her daughter especially, meant the world to her, and Theresa would have done anything for her. Besides her husband Kurt, Theresa will be missed by her daughter, Kaeli Gusek; her mother, Patricia E. (Morris) Corbin; three brothers, Michael Corbin and his wife, Kristin, Brian Corbin and his wife, Sandra, Dan Corbin and his wife, Jenny; her sister, Mary Overmyer; and twelve nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Theresa’s family from 4 to 8pm Tuesday April 18, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Wednesday April 19, at St. Patrick’s Church, 258 Main St., Rutland.
