RUTLAND – Theodore “Ted” P. McDade, M.D., 58, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022, while hiking with his family. Born in Tuscaloosa, AL, and raised in Littleton, NH, Ted was the son of the late Harry C. McDade, M.D., and Constance “Connie” (Pashley) McDade of Littleton, NH. He leaves his loving wife of 31 years, Janet A. (Burkowsky) McDade; his children, Harry McDade of Rutland, and Makhamali (Mali) McDade of Shrewsbury. Ted is survived by his mother Connie McDade of Littleton, NH; his sister, Donna McDade Bain (Alan) of Bathurst, Australia; and nephews and niece: Andrew, Daniel, and Luke Bain of Australia; and Jack Panula; Spenser, Dylan, and Trent Burkowsky of CT.
Ted was a loving husband and father, an accomplished outdoorsman, and worked as a physician-scientist at UMass Memorial. He valued family above all else and was happiest visiting family or enjoying the outdoors, hiking, canoeing, skiing, snowshoeing, or helping manage his mom’s property - usually with a chainsaw. In his spare time, he enjoyed marksmanship, photography, writing, chess, and following the Tour de France and the NE Patriots. A man of extraordinary strength and courage he was a 33-year cancer survivor and met its long-term complications with dignity and a smile. Ted was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Holden.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 4th in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Funeral services for Ted will be held on Saturday, February 5th with an 11 a.m. service at St. Francis Church, 70 Highland Street, Holden. Covid-19 restrictions, appropriate social distancing and wearing of a mask will be required.
