WORCESTER – Richard T. Duggan, 81, of 189 Holden Street, died Thursday, September 21, 2006 in Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after a short illness.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Lorraine R. (Butler) Duggan; his brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Richard W. and Ruth E. Butler of Holden, Kenneth and Lilia Butler and George Butler all of Worcester, and Paul and Barbara Butler of Carver; several nieces and nephews. His sister, Theresa Allen, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Agnes and Herbert McGee, and was a life-long resident of Worcester. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II serving in Asiatic and Pacific theaters where he was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart.
Mr. Duggan was a machinist for Russell Machine Products, later known as Lutco Bearings for 40 years, retiring in 1987. Upon retirement, he worked at St. George’s Church where he was also a Church and men’s club member, and sang in the choir for 25 years. He was also a member of the Marine Corps League, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division Association.
The funeral for Mr. Duggan will be held on Tuesday, September 26, from the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. George’s Church, 40 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. Memorial donations may be made to the Massachusetts Veterans Shelter, 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01609; or to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
