Taylor Benjamin

April 6, 2007 — July 4, 2011

GROTON – Taylor Benjamin Young, four-year-old son of Matthew D. Young and Gale A. Devens, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2011 after a tragic accident.

Besides his parents, Taylor leaves a sister, Olivia Lynne Young of Groton; paternal grandparents, Elizabeth A. (Hatala) Young of Dryden, NY and David H. Young of Ithaca, NY; maternal grandparents, Janet A. McKeon and her husband Jack of Sterling and William R. Devens of Lehigh Acres, FL; maternal great-grandmother, Jean E. Danielson of Holden; two uncles, Aaron J. Young of Ithaca, NY and Michael R. Devens of Worcester; an aunt, Lynne M. Burns of Hubbardston; and a very large loving extended family. His aunt, Amy E. (Young) Cochrane, predeceased him.

Taylor was a sweet, energetic, boy who loved to dance and sing. He was born in Aachen, Germany, and we loved to carry him in our arms everywhere we went. His eyes were warm and brown filled with sparkle and sunshine, with long, flirty eyelashes. He loved his trucks and even though he just learned how to ride a big-boy bike without training wheels, he was already starting to pull "mean" wheelies and ride fast. We will miss our sweet little man. He was our little man, always helping his daddy with tools, building projects, and carrying the plants for his mommy to help plant in the garden. Blueberries and home-grown broccoli were his favorite. We still remember him coming down in his froggie rain boots and sneaking into the cabinet to eat peanut butter under the kitchen table. We love you silly boy.

We will miss your silly wake-up calls, when you pretended to be an alarm clock ("ALARM CLOCK!!!! ALARM CLOCK!!!") and play your air guitar. I will miss how you cuddled and ran your fingers through my hair holding your blue blankie, kitty cat and your dog.

He was bold and fearless, and typically performed his own acrobatic stunts and silly dance moves. He firmly believed that in the age-old struggle between trucks vs. dinosaurs….trucks win.

He is in the wind and sunshine. We can hear him dancing in the leaves and in the trees. We can feel him around us in the garden waking in the morning dew to greet us with his hugs and laughter. He is our Kokopelli boy, sprinkling the earth with music and joy, dancing in our hearts forever.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 8th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 9th at 10 a.m. in the Greendale People's Church, 25 Francis Street, Worcester. Burial will be private.
