Biography
RUTLAND - Sylvia M. (Luukko) Mann Rotti, 80, of Rutland, died peacefully at home under the loving care of her family on Wednesday, August 13, 2014. Born in Holden, Sylvia was the daughter of Finnish immigrants, Matti W. and Martha (Kujanpaa) Luukko and lived her entire life in Rutland.
Sylvia graduated from the former Rutland High School and worked as a school bus driver for Mac-Mae Bus Co. in Hubbardston, Devereux School in Rutland and as a nurses aide at the former Rutland Heights Hospital.
She was a lifetime member of the First Congregational Church of Rutland. She was proud of her Finnish heritage and hometown of Rutland. Sylvia was known for her baking that she so willingly shared with her family and friends. Her engaging personality and selfless nature will continue to remain in our hearts and minds, but most of all, she will be remembered by her family and friends as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend.
Her husband, Geno A. Rotti, died in 1990. She leaves her daughter, Cynthia C. Safford of Rutland; three sons, Roger A. Mann of Paxton, Larry S. Mann of New York and Gary T. Mann of Oakham; five grandchildren, Cassandra, Clifton, Joseph, Zachery and Kyle; two great-grandchildren, Orion and Alexandra; her sister, Lillian Gavitt of St. Louis Park, MN; and nephews and nieces. Besides her husband, Sylvia is predeceased by a brother, Eino Luukko; her sisters, Viola Jarvi and Irja Riano; and a great-grandson, Jackson.
A memorial service celebrating Sylvia's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, at the First Congregational Church, 264 Main St., Rutland. The Rev. David Fish will be officiating. Interment will be private in Rural Cemetery in Rutland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or the First Congregational Church of Rutland, P.O. Box 484 , Rutland, MA 01543.
