WORCESTER- Mina (Swope) Sopkovec Porter, 88, of 340 May Street, died Friday, February 13, 2009 in Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol after an illness.
Her husband, C. Elmer Porter, died in February, 2008. Her first husband, Mathew Sopkovec died in February, 1969. She leaves a sister, Grace Reade and her husband Dick of Sparks, NV; and 24 nieces and nephews. Six brothers, Lee, Lynn, Ralph, Glenn, Karl and James, and four sisters, Anna, Maude, Eleanor and Margaret, all predeceased her. She was born and raised in Smithfield, PA, the daughter of Charles Samuel and Margaret Foust (Brewer) Swope, and lived many years in Worcester before moving back to Smithfield, PA in 1984. She most recently lived at Tatnuck Park in Worcester
Mina was an Office Manager at Brewer Tree Expert Co., a family business, for many years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and White Shrine of Jerusalem in Uniontown, PA. She was founder of the library in Smithfield and was actively involved with many voluntary organizations in her community. Mina was a parishioner of the Springhill Furnace Presbyterian Church.
A memorial service for Mina will be held in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden at a later date. Burial will be in All Faith's Cemetery, Worcester at the convenience of the family.
