Biography
WORCESTER – Sven Osterback, 75, formerly of Sweden and Finland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 29, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester after an illness. Born and raised in Malax Finland, Sven was the son of Axel R. and Hilma Osterback and lived the last several years in Worcester.
Sven was educated in Sweden and a graduate of Uppsala University in Uppsala Sweden (just outside of Stockholm). He spent most of his professional career as a hydro nuclear engineer and worked at the Oskarshamn Nuclear Power Plant in Oskarshamn Sweden. In the summer of 1990, while in Skaftung Finland, Sven reunited with a close childhood friend from Finland, Ann-Marie Anderson. They married in 1997 and moved to Boylston, Massachusetts where they resided for over 10 years. Both retired from work in Massachusetts and moved back to Finland before returning to the USA in 2012.
Besides his beloved wife, Ann-Marie, he leaves two step-sons, Wayne A. Andrews of Worcester and Robert W. Andrews and his wife, Emily of Barre; two sisters, Ingegard Artursson of Sweden and Ingalill Eklund of Finland; three step-grandchildren, Amanda, Alyssa and Connor Andrews; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service honoring Sven’s life will be held at noon on Friday, February 10, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. To share a memory or offer a condolence, please visit our "guest book" on this page.
